Over the first few weeks in the Premier League, numerous goalkeepers have employed the save with the feet to keep out close range reaction shots. If used correctly, the kick save can be a very effective technique. This session is a good way to introduce or refine the goalkeeper’s ability to save with the feet.
Andrew Sparkes of Swansea City AFC recently presented this session, ‘Distribution and Shot Stopping’ at the first annual International Goalkeeper Coaches Conference earlier this month. Sparkes collected data from his Swansea youth games and it quickly became clear where his focus for training should be. You will find this session very useful and should spark many new ideas for your coaches. From a goalkeeping perspective, are you focusing on the right components of the game at the younger ages?
