With Dealing with 1V1s, Christophe shares his unique approach to denying goal scoring opportunities as demonstrated by some of the best goalkeepers in the modern game.

Dealing with 1V1s

1.

Setup:

Warm Up, Handling, Contact Pitch- Proprioception
Equipment needed for session: Flat cones (different colors), 2 poles, 2 agility ladders, 1 or 2 rebound boards, 4-6 bibs, 3 small hurdles, 1 10cm box, 4 sticks, 1 handball goal, 2-3 full size goals. 4 GKs, 4 field players.

Instructions:

Warm Up- 3 minutes of free time and then mobilization/activation. Handling- catch and R chest throw, first touch L second touch R, catch and keep the ball, ball up catch R chest throw, throw control R and volley L. 5 reps total. Contact Pitch- proprioception, color reaction catch, scoop left/sweep left, low ball/med high ball, screen position. Repeat other side.

Instructions:

1-dive forward and leading with the hands, 2-same and cut the angle, 3-dive and spread out using body to stop the ball, 4-same, 5-quick adjustment.

Coaching Points:

Lead with the hands and spread out using the body.

Setup:

Instructions:

The objective is to reduce the distance and space.

Coaching Points:

Balance & strength, upper body orientation, lower body flexibility, courage, arms/legs coordination.

Instructions:

Player has to dribble in the channel (no shot).

Coaching Points:

Right or left footed?, look at the ball, don’t give the solution, small steps, ready to explode, foot save?, low center of gravity.

Coach plays all different scenarios. In the diagram, balls played to the left are without a defender and balls played to the right incorporate a defender.

Interception, break the speed down, hold up to stand, go or not? (decision making), control of space

Instructions:

GK red and green have to recover the ball as a GK. Three minute matches, no defender in the 1V1 zone for the first bout. Only 1 defender in the 1V1 zone when the ball enters.

Coaching Points:

All GKs must control the space and be commanding.
